Pa's New Toy

The day has finally arrived! Pa has got a new set of wheels. After some dramatic tears (by Ma), alluding to the fact that "...but...we brought our baby home from the hospital in the Avalanche, sniff, sniff", we have bid a fond adeiu to the orange truck. And as any wife of a self proclaimed gearhead knows vehicles don't last long in our driveway.

His vehicles leave almost as quickly as they arrive so it can be dangerous to bond with one.

As Pa has now successfully managed to own every one of the trucks (that will fit a babyseat, now a requirement) in the GM lineup he is now driving a car. And a used car at that! Owning a Grand Prix GTP has been on his "life's list of must dos" and now one is parked comfortably in front of the house. Getting the thing home, however was an interesting adventure. As per our life. We drive up to Hamilton, check out the car, test drove it and all of the other things you need to do. We purchased it and managed to drive home, Pa in front and Ma following, in a complete blizzard. 5 hour drive...

Ma was eerily reminded of the time, probably about 5 years ago, when she bought a new Sunfire GT and not a week later, managed to become involved in a 40 car, 401 pileup. That too was a complete whiteout. It was one of those movie-like, slow motion crashes where you realize that there is a helicopter landing on the grassy median to pick up the injured and fly them to the hospital. Ugh.

Anyhow...we made it home safely last night. But Ma and Pa did a lot of 10-4ing each other, with Ma begging that they could just stop. Pa, however, in his wisdom, would not let Ma just park in the middle of the 401 and continued to encourage her all the way home.

So, the new car has been home for approximately 24 hours. Pa turns to Ma today and says, "When I retire I need to get an Impala, k?"

Damn autotrader.
