Sept 5 - Happy Birthday Auntie

Dear Auntie,

On your birthday, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful things you have done to help me to celebrate Xander's birth and his journey in the NICU.

I think Elton said it best...(you know you know the tune!!)

And then if you can remember
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well you came in loving me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

I love ya,
Nan

    Happy Birthday Auntie!

Make this day special for yourself, you deserve it! You have been tireless in keeping us all updated on Sha's progress throughout this journey. Ma is very lucky to have you as a friend / sister, and the posting shows that she appreciates everything you've done for her and her newfound love.

In life, you can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. Ma certainly made a wise choice all those years ago! Cherish the friendship you share. It's rare that you find someone who is really willing to stick with it when times get tough. The tough times make the good times that more precious to us all!

    Have a happy birthday...enjoy!

Thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes. Thanks to my sister for posting and for decorating the office door. I have to admit, I was slightly curious when A Cow e-mailed me to wish me happy birthday... apparently I'm a little slow, as I just figured it out now! Brain must be slipping in my "old" age.

Since my beautiful little nephew was born, people keep saying to me, "take time for yourself" and "you're such a great friend to do all that"... but in response, I have to say this... Ma, we've known each other since we were just out of diapers and we've been there for each other through good times and horrible times. If there's anything on my mind, you are the first person I call...especially if it's about Lord Uncle B!!! You've been my friend, my confidante, my rock and my sister, if only of the heart. I know that if I were in your situation, you would be the first person that I could count on (excluding Lord Uncle B of course) and that you would gladly do anything for me. So, people think I'm sacrificing to help you through this...but I'm just happy to be there for you and little Sha. Besides, I got the best end of the deal...I now have a perfect, stubborn nephew, who I will cherish as though he is mine...but I get to spoil him and play with him and love him...not any of that "parent" stuff!!! And now that I have that song in my head...which will likely stay there for hours, I'll just say this... I love you too!
